Bring me the Ephod
In 1 Samuel 30, David is faced with a distressing situation. As they were carrying out the work of the Lord, the wives and children of his men as well as himself have been captured. Everyone including David is wounded to the point of tearless crying. His men are mad at him and blaming him for this situation.
Does any of this sound familiar? Are your finances a mess? Are you facing separation from your spouse? Are your children/teenagers acting in rebellion or distancing themselves due to their own hurt? Is your spouse/family blaming you for all of the problems in your life right now? How many nights have you cried until there are no more tears left to cry asking God for direction and guidance for your situation?
The answer to all of your questions is described in the following verse:
1 Samuel 30 7 Then David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelek, “Bring me the ephod.”
David clothed himself in a garment that was worn to connect with God in worship. When this garment was worn it signified a direct uninterrupted connection to God. When you need to discover what God’s direction is for your life in any situation, the answer lies in clothing yourself in the “ephod” of worship. Positioning yourself into the holy of holies, just you and God and lying prostrate in your heart before Him spreading out all concerns at his feet. David understood that he did not have the answers but he served the One who did. He knew that he had to separate himself from the people and the situations he was facing and get into the face of God.
Every last one of us must do what David did. Whenever a situation presents itself in your life simply say: “Bring me the ephod.”
Begin to worship and praise the One who created every answer to every circumstance you may be facing right now. It’s in His Presence that you find answers, safety, peace, joy, love and strength. Have the tenacity like Jacob to say “God I am not moving until you speak, until you bless, until you direct.” Seek out and desire to hear His voice, let God know that His Voice is the only One you will follow.
1 Samuel 30 Abiathar brought it to him, 8 and David inquired of the Lord, “Shall I pursue this raiding party? Will I overtake them?” “Pursue them,” he answered. “You will certainly overtake them and succeed in the rescue.”
While David worshipped he received his answer in verse 8 as noted above: I am here to tell you that you have the victory! Whatever the battles you are involved in right now know this, it is written: “You will certainly overtake them and succeed in the rescue.”
Everything that was stolen from you will be rescued from the land of the enemy and returned for it is written:
Joel 2:25 “And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.” In Jesus name, Amen!
